The Basil Breakfast in Bali
The Basil breakfast is one of my joys in life that keep me going. I eat at Basil Kitchen a little bit too much, but my friend owns it and I enjoy the food greatly. Almost every day I have the Basil breakfast, and I can even convince myself that the world is a wonderful place as I do. Okay, yes, I know it’s a wonderful place anyway, but some days are a little bit harder than others so this helps me keep optimistic.
The Basil breakfast consists of bacon, egg, mushrooms, fried cheese, fried Tomato, spinach, avocado, toasted bread, and a pot of black tea. I am not sure I can think of a better breakfast in existence. Actually, the breakfast comes with a cup of tea, but I drink so much tea they have just got used to bringing me a full pot. A good black English tea. Strangely enough, I can’t get a good cup of tea in the Philippines. You would think they sell tea and it would be common, but really I have not found anywhere that sells good tea. I know there must be a place, I just haven’t found it yet.
My whole life, my family always had a pot of tea. I think we made tea six or seven times a day. In a way, it was a way to bring us closer. The first thing we always did when coming home from anything, whether the market or traveling overseas, was put the kettle on for tea. Making a good cup of tea was like being welcomed home, it let you know you are home. When I have good tea now, it makes me feel like I’m back with my family, it makes me happy. I know that might sound silly, but it does. I miss my family very much.
