what am I traveling with? what’s in my carry-on.

What am I traveling with? Well, I’m traveling with a lot less than I expected to be traveling with. After my friend told me that I’ve lost everything I have in storage back in the States, what left was whatever I had in my carry-on. I like to travel light anyway, always trying to travel with only a carry-on in the past, but this time it wasn’t much of a choice.
I had six short-sleeved Hawaiian shirt type shirts, two pairs of black trousers, a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of black oxfords, one pair of socks, computer stuff, razor and toothbrush, and a few other small personal effects. I’m not quite sure where all my socks went but I ended up with one pair. The tennis shoes were old beat-up tennis shoes, and they ended up in an airport trash can as they took me too far overweight on my carry-on. (this was before I made my travel coat)

Most importantly though is my computer stuff. I am actually traveling with an Oculus Rift virtual reality system and a really nice laptop with a graphics card that can support the rift. This, unfortunately, takes upĀ about half of my travel bag. But I would rather have it in the extra clothes.

The shirts I have are almost all Hawaiian shirts. I never intended them to be the only shirts I have. They are made out of a fabric called Terivoile, which is really a wonderful fabric, very hard to get ahold of. So far I have only found Hawaiian shirts with it. It doesn’t wrinkle, very cool, and it washes and dries extremely easily. When you wash it and hang it, it takes maybe an hour to dry and that’s it.

I think when I get a little bit more money (famous last words) I will buy some other travel items. I will trade out my trousers for a pair of fast dry travel trousers. Possibly two pairs, but I think maybe one pair and one pair of fast dry shorts (that can double as swimming trunks). I have already done the research on them and they look fairly strong and long-lasting. But the most important part is they look good and dry fast. I have also seen some polyester t-shirts that don’t wrinkle and pack up small, also fast dry. A pair of ultralight sandals would be nice too.

I think if I didn’t have the computer equipment I could probably do all my packing in a small book bag.
It is actually nice to travel light, makes it very easy to move from place to place. Especially as I move a lot when I’m in Bali. It takes me less than 5 minutes to pack everything up, in fact, if I was pressured I could probably do it in under a minute.
On my computer equipment, I have an electric adapter, a couple of usb chargers, 3 terabyte USB hard drive, headphones, cell phone, kindle, laptop and power brick, Oculus Rift, hand controllers, two sensors, xbox controller, webcam, and various cables.

Anyway, that’s about it for my travels, I do my washing every other day in the sink and dry it out, it all works out well. I would like to start using my Oculus Rift a little bit more but sometimes I have too much work to do online, and I’m lazy to set everything up. However, when my computer laptop screen died I worked with in my Oculus in a program that showed me my computer screen inside virtual reality. I couldn’t see it in the real world but in the virtual world, I could. So for a week, I worked inside the virtual world. Basically sitting on top of a mountaintop with an amazing view with a computer screen just floating in front of me. It was a bit difficult to type as you don’t see a keyboard, but you get used to it pretty fast.

So that’s what I carry with me everywhere, not very much, but enough to get the job done.

I think I care more about my computer than I do my clothes.
